Costco in Livermore sells this Toshiba DVD player. Whoops, it's got HDMI out. Whoops, it up converts your 480i signal into 720p, or 1080i, if your TV supports it. Whoops, it also plays Divx files and photo CD's. Whoops, it's only $80. Whoops, it comes with a $30 HDMI cable. Whoops, do I sound like the dude from that Ruby on Rails video?
I can now ditch cable all together. It's my little way of sticking it to the man. But Noah, you say, aren't you the man?! Yes, I am the man, but just not that man. So what if my dad own's the cable company, and so what if he is leaving his fortune to me. I don't care that he sleeps on a bed made of freshly printed C notes, and I don't care that he changes them out every week. I want to stick it to somebody, and cable guy seems like a good choice.
How to stick it:
Deliver the first blow, and cancel my already low, low $21.50 / month cable package.
While that backhand is still stinging, mention how you're downloading a BitTorrent of Curb Your Enthusiasm in HD, as you're hanging up on the now crying Cable Company Support Lady.
Now that the wrath of the Futon is all up on them, you burn that BitTorrent to a CD, and pop it into your fresh new Toshiba DVD player.
Fire it up, and enjoy your used to cost you big bucks, but now it's free, commercial free, stickin it to the man, who happens to be your dad, free.

and yes i will still let you come to my house and watch the latest and greatest in hd because you know you can not wait an entire extra night or day for certain top notch (see US version of The Office) shows. That's what neighbors are for.
btw, can i get a futon league pass to be able to come over and watch dvd's in hd on your PiMp plasma anytime i want?

and will netflix charge you more now that their movies look THAT much better? will they know? are they watching you? are they tied to sony/bmg and are they installing some crapwares on your $80 dvd player to tell them what kind of picture shows you like and whether you remove those clear plastic stickers off your newly purchased electronics or whether you keep them on to make the piece seem new forever?

Shua - I can automate the grabbage of BitTorrentage, and perhaps even set up some Automatage to burn it to a CD-RW (to save on costs, and b/c my new pimp player plays CD-RW's)... but I think I would need to be there to insert the CD in to the machine-age.
