I'd like to consider myself somewhat "computer saavy", (I mean, I did write my first bit of PHP yesterday) but this one has me stumped. While in my Display settings in the lovely Le Tigre, I stumbled upon this gem. A rotate drop down menu complete with selections of varying degrees. Please tell me just what the Futon I am going to do with this? Person with the best answer wins a box of fudge. I can't guarentee it won't mold on the way to your place... but I mean hey, free fudge.

It ironically comes in handy when I find myself hanging from the ceiling doing my inverted situps (feeling quite batman like) at night. Flip the picture upside down and enjoy a DVD on my powerbook while the world is amuck and upside down.
Posted @ June 16, 2005Would I eat the fudge after such a workout? Probably.

i'm assuming that's so you could mount your display sideways either way (90 or 270) or upside-down and set your display settings to work accordingly.
my fudge please.

After a lot of research and a grueling Kelly Clarkson listening spree, I'm still nowhere near a satisfying conclusion. As a bonus, I'm now feeling much less heterosexual than I did last Thursday. Thus, I'm resorting to just begging for the fudge. Give me the fudge. Now. Please?
Might as well put a "More Cowbell" dropdown in there instead.

Oh, you guys. You are letting a Linux guy swoop in and steal the fudge.
Let me take you back, oh, nye onta 7 years. I remember it like it was yesterday.
I was being patronized by a rabid Macaholic, who was dying to show me his new toy: a monitor that was mounted on flat axis, and could pivot from 90° depending on what you were, you know, well, whatever you Mac types do with yourselves. ;)
With this revelation, I can only assume that these types of displays are still available.
Partial fudge credit?

hink's right.
you people sure like your fudge don't you?

The Apple developers and myself worked hard on this feature. It's basically an April Fools Joke built right into the OS. When your favorite Mac Geek is gone for lunch, rotate his screen and wait for his shriek of horror. I don't need no stinkin' fudge, I've got my own banana mocha peanut butter deluxe fudge right here.

How funny! I just found that setting last night and clicked on 90° to the right, just for fun. My screen immediately flipped itself to the side and i had fun trying to maneuver the mouse around the screen.
I have dual 17 inch LCDs, and LCDs have the industry standard VESA screwhole plate in the back, so i assume if you wanted to, you could get a different mount that let you rotate your monitor physically to match whatever your display settings are.
Some people like being able to see whole pages at once... people who do print work, for example. It's of no use to me, though.

Totally print-industry specific.
I hate fudge. Can we just snuggle instead?

Actually, you all have it wrong. When you click the rotate button, Apple actually found a way to rotate the axis of the earth. Your computer stays still but everything else around rotates say 90 degrees. Brilliant Steve!

Great stuff here. I've got some front runners on my mind, and my mind on some front runners. Mmmm. Fudge.

Heh, I was playing with this on the new monitor this morning... came in mighty handy trying to read a 180 post long photo thread on acurazine.
Just too bad the Apple monitors don't rotate... :-'

yeah, my new dell has this feature too.. i tried it for fun, in case i wanted to type sideways or upside down. it wasn't that fun. btw, my new dell came with some loud volleyball shorts not unlike the ones in the previews michael dell post. i wear them while reading my screen at 90 degrees. it's insane. i called dell customer support and threatened to return my machine if they didn't send me some of that Keegan fudge (you know, with the banana mocha deluxe). They offered me a $200 dell coupon and fudge. I said i wanted snuggles too. They got confused and sent me dryer softener sheets. Then after reading Red C's post i got to thinking.. does my feature turn the world like apple's does or is mine an imposter.. DOH! I knew i should have bought a Mac!

i have tiger ... and an apple display, but no option to rotate. i went to best buy and was looking at their mac mini's for sale (which is strange that they sell mac mini's) and i saw the rotation option. so, i'm wondering why i don't have this option. could it be my video card ... or is it my monitor. maybe both. my monitor is the old 15 inch apple display that doesn't have the VESA thing on the back to make it go sideways, so maybe that's why.

I'm gonna rotate YOUR FACE!

So I'm torn. I've got my Top 3 list:
Honorable mention to:
Not to exclude anyone, they were all great responses. I will likely meditate on the Kabalah book or something to determine the winner; after which I will request said winner's address to mail fudge too. Winner can pack it or do what ever it is they desire. As MJ says, 'You are not alone', so anyone else who entered, has the option to send me their mailing address at motherfuton [at] gmail [dot] com, and I will mail them a Little Debbie's snackcake. Just the partial fudge credit I was shootin' for.

Caleb, you have to hold down the command key while clicking display preferences or some shit to get that rotate option to display with a monitor that doesn't support it natively.
