So I hung out with the U2 boys last night. Well, not so much hanging out as me hoovering about 50 ft over their heads... looking down on one of the greatest rock and roll bands of our time. Let me tell you friends, it was one of the greatest shows I've ever seen. The set list was as follows:

Sunday Bloody Sunday
Bullet The Blue Sky
Running to Standstill
Pride in the name of love
Where the Streets Have No Name
One
Zoo Station
The Fly
Mysterious Ways
Original of the Species (First time ever performed live)
All Because of You

I won't rave too much about all the goodness that was the second San Jose U2 show... but I will tell you that the Edge is a guitar genius. His sounds were phenominal. Bono's voice was fresh and full of energy and passion. Adam was the classic bassist, keeping the tunes steady and moving forward; he actually strayed out on the catwalk a few times himself... and of course Larry, ended the show solo... and what a solo it was. An entire arena singing the "40" melody with only Larry on drums, keeping the rhythm. Magic.
A few of the tracks were different versions, one that sticks to mind was Elevation. The Edge had his riff going, while Bono took us through verse by verse, building it up and up, and then letting us down again; until the climatic moment when the entire band kicked in, Bono dropped off and the arena screamed... "El-A-Va-Tion"!
My tickets cost me $150 dollars. It was worth it. Besides U2, I also got to stand next to a man who hadn't showered in days, and was singing at the top of his lungs... oh and he was TONE DEAF. And who could forget the classic 35 year old white male, trying to dance in the row in front of me. You remember Elaine's dance on that classic episode of Seinfeld? I think these two learned from the same teacher.
If you get a chance, go see U2. You will not be disappointed.
mother futon canary says,
I was gonna go to a U2 concert but my loan for a million dollars didn't go through.
